The Library of the Open University of Cyprus ranked first in the Transcribathon Cyprus Marathon

OUC Library won first place at the “Transcription Marathon “Transcribathon Cyprus”, which took place in the context of the European Cultural Heritage Year and during the EUROMED 2018 Conference in Nicosia, Cyprus. The transcription, commentary, and presentation of manuscripts of World War I and hidden stories of Cyprus were the fields in which the participating teams competed.
 
The team of the OUC Library comprising of George Andreou, Flora Konstantinou and Vasiliki Vasileiadou, was asked to transcribe and comment on illegible manuscripts of World War I (letters, soldiers' diaries, photographs, etc.) that concerned Cypriot citizens and that had been collated in advance, during an earlier invitation from the European Digital Library
Europeana.
 
The 1st place at Transcribathon Cyprus enables the OUC Library team to participate in the
“Europeana 1914-1918 Centenary Tour Finale Transcribathon” competition, to be held in Brussels on 27-28 November 2018. The winners will receive awards from the European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel.
 
Transcribathon Cyprus took place from October 31 to November 2, 2018, is part of a broader project of digitizing the cultural heritage of the EU Member States and was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Cyprus Library, the Cyprus National Committee for the Digitization of Cultural Heritage and the ICOMOS Cyprus National Committee.
