Cyprus University of Technology is ranked 37th in the world

Another important recognition of Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) is the new international ranking list of the Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2018 which was published on May 9, 2018. According to the list, CUT is ranked as the 37th highest university in the world, higher than last year, which ranked 52nd.

The Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2018 assesses and ranks institutions from 50 countries whose economies are characterized as emerging from the FTSE, including the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). This year's list includes 378 leading Universities from 42 countries in total.

Referring to this important success, Phil Baty, chief editor of THE World University Rankings, notes: "It's not easy for a university to be listed in the Times Higher Education Times BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2018 list, which uses 13 very strict and demanding performance indices identical to those used in THE World List Rankings core list. Universities should demonstrate high levels of performance in all areas: Teaching, Research, Transfer of Know-how, and International Image and Perspective, and compete with other, top in research universities, among 50 emerging economies. We rank and list only the top Universities of these countries. Therefore, the inclusion of CUT in this list is an important achievement. "

Professor Andreas Anagiotos, rector of CUT, stated that: “The fact that CUT is ranked 37th in the list of top universities in emerging economies is an important distinction and highlights the University’s excellence and dedication to quality at international level. This success, as well as other important distinctions we have achieved, confirms the upward course of the University, and that we are working in the right direction to implement the main strategic goal we have set for international recognition and continuous improvement of the position and performance of the University in selected international ranking lists. Congratulations to all members of the university community for their contribution, hard work and their significant effort to continually improve and upgrade quality”, he concluded.

It is important to mention that this list examines the performance of each University in the following areas: Teaching, Research, Transfer of Know-how, and International Image and Perspective. However, the methodology is adapted to better reflect the characteristics and priorities of universities in emerging economies. For example, more emphasis is given on the Interconnection with Industry and the International Image and Perspective.
