According to the 5th annual ranking list of the publishing house "The U.S. News & World Report 2019 Best Global Universities" of the United States, the University of Cyprus is ranked 513th among the world's top 1250 public and private universities and 74 other countries, as well as 230th among the top European universities included in the evaluation. Focused on the conduct and reputation of research, this year's ranking announced on 30 October 2018 includes the University of Cyprus as the only highest academic institution in Cyprus in the "US News & World Report ».
U.S. News & World Report evaluates and classifies the best university institutions using a wide range of criteria. Particular emphasis is placed on scientific research, influence and reputation rather than teaching undergraduate and postgraduate study programs. According to the methodology used for this classification, universities are evaluated in 13 categories, including academic performance, global and regional impact and reputation of research at international and national level, the number of publications and their impact index, publications, conferences organized, global reports, normalized, research quality, international collaborations, and the quality of PhD students. US ranking for News & World 2019 Best Global Universities, which uses data from Clarivate Analytics, is designed to provide information on how universities compare internationally based on their research performance. To do this, the agency examined 1,250 institutions in 75 countries and ranked them using a combination of data and research based on surveys and referrals.
The top three universities in the world ranking of 2019 are Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University.
The Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Konstantinos Christofides stressed that the ranking lists are an important guide to showing where we are and what we have to go in comparing with international competition. "The inclusion of the University of Cyprus in this ranking confirms the organization's dedication to its research mission, quality teaching, innovation and entrepreneurship," the Rector noted.
