University of Cyprus among the top of the best universities of emerging economies

Excellent performance after being ranked as the 30th top University Worldwide, according to the new International Ranking of the Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018.

University of Cyprus was ranked among the world's first leading universities, and in particular in the 30th place, the best received by Cyprus and Greek universities, according to the new international ranking of Times Higher Education - BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018.

The Brics and Emerging Economies 2018 Times, which is published for the fifth year, was announced on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, and includes only those countries whose economies are ranked as emerging from the FTSE, including the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). This year, 378 leading Universities from 42 countries were evaluated, and University's of Cyprus performance is highly honorary.

Excellent performance was also succeeded by the Cyprus University of Technology, which is ranked 37th, while the performance of six Greek universities is particularly good.

This ranking uses the same 13 very stringent and demanding performance indicators as those used by the established world ranking of THE World University Rankings, examining the strengths of each university in all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international perspectives. The methodology for this ranking better reflects the development priorities of universities in emerging economies. The international perspective and interconnection with industry is therefore important.

Professor Constantinos Christofides, rector of University of Cyprus, noted that the 30th rank of Cyprus University in the list of leading Universities in emerging economies confirms once again the quality of the University, especially with regard to its developmental design. "It is one more presumption of the need to modernize legislation so that the University can set up its own small and medium-sized high-tech enterprises. We want the university to produce knowledge producers, new graduates who create their own businesses, and they, in turn, employ young graduates. We therefore propose to the state, and thus to society, a new virtuous circle of development. "
