New Research Grant to CUT: "IoT for Education: Air Quality issues"

The research team "New Media, Knowledge and Learning", in collaboration with the Internet of Things Lab (IoTLab) of the Department of Communication and Internet Studies of Cyprus University of Technology, received a grant for a six month research program aimed at developing applications for the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) into secondary education.

The “IoT for Education: Air Quality matters” (IoT4ED) is funded under the Horizon 2020 program to enhance the natural environment and improve the quality of life through the use of the available IoT applications, contributing to the development of smart, connected environments (e.g. smart city, smart campus, intelligent transport, etc.). The team of the Cyprus University of Technology, focusing on the use of the Internet of Things, will develop a sensor platform and a mobile application for high school students.

The application will aim to develop students' environmental awareness about atmospheric pollution, as well as students' understanding of how the "Internet of Things" works. The application will be designed in collaboration with high school students and will be tested in high schools in Limassol to assess the usability and impact of the application.

The application will communicate with platforms and databases that collect data from European Union cities and will also present environmental data from the city of Limassol.

The team of "IoT for Education: Air Quality matters" at Cyprus University of Technology consists of Dr. Lampros Lamprinos, Dr. Eleni A. Kyza, Andria Agisilaou, Louka Konstantinou, and Markos Souropetzis from the Department of Communication and Internet Studies.
